Uses for an Expandable Garden Hose

The benefits of using an expandable garden hose, with it's durable and lightweight construction making it great for using around even the largest gardens a clear positive for using an expanding hose, can be extended beyond watering the garden.  They can even be extended beyond the useful lifespan of the expandable hose itself.

Spirit Level

An old hose, or a new one for that matter, can be used as an accurate and free water level. By adding a piece of plastic transparent tubing at either end, the hose becomes a spirit level.  Just pour water into one end and, as water finds its own level always, the level will be found.

Landscape Marker

With their long length and flexible quality, hoses can be used to mark out shapes of any kind in a garden - very useful when planning and marking out a landscape before the real work of digging and planting begins.

Bucket Handle

For those who have had to carry heavy buckets around, in the garden or elsewhere, the pain and discomfort of a metal or hard plastic handle digging into the hand will be familiar.  If you cut a piece of hose and fix it around the handle, you will have a much more comfortable bucket handle.

Bumper Protector

These hoses can also be used to help prevent bumps and scratches on cars.  Simply cut the required length of hose and fix at car bumper height around garages, walls and other obstacles that might be hit by cars.  The same concept can be used around boat docks as well.

Soaker Hose

An old expanding hose can also be used as a soaker hose in gardens. Just drill a few holes in the hose and place around the area you need to water, fill with water and you have a very cost-effective and durable soaker hose.  They can be buried under the soil to keep plants watered for days.

Pipe Clearer

With its sturdy yet flexible structure, an expandable garden hose is an great tool for unblocking blocked down pipes and the like.  Simply feed the hose into the opening and keep pushing to unblock the pipes.  Simple and very cost-effective compared to calling out a plumber.

Empty Paddling Pools

Many people have children's paddling pools in their garden, and usually just empty the old water out when they are finished playing.  You can save water, and money, by using an expanding hose to siphon out the water and using it to water the garden.

The above are just some of the things you can do with an expandable garden hose, be it an old unused one or one still in use.
